Just For Us

*This is a combination of our Just for Girls & Guys Alive programs

The Just For Us program is a co-ed youth-friendly and fun social emotional learning program held in local schools. It helps create connection, provides a safe environment to talk about issues concerning their lives and help develop skills around social and personal competency (in line with the Abbotsford MDI Report and BC Curriculum Core Competencies).

Format of the Program

Each session takes place during lunch hour over eight-weeks in a group of around 10-15 Grade 7 students in either the fall or spring semester. The first session is set up to allow students to get to know each other and the facilitators before they move into talking about specific topics.  Students’ experiences are listened to and validated. Sessions include games and discussions to help build connection and develop a positive sense of self.

Topics covered may include:

  • Peer pressure

  • Coping skills

  • Confidence and self-esteem

  • Friendship

  • Communication

  • Who to go to when they need help.
